Additional insights came from the fusion of spectroscopy and coronagraphic occultation. Inspired by rocket-borne UV observations of the extended corona during a solar eclipse in March , Kohl et al. developed a UV coronagraph spectrometer to measure the profile shape of the bright H I . The COronal Solar Magnetism Observatory (COSMO) K-coronagraph (K-Cor) is one of three proposed instruments in the COSMO facility suite. It is specifically designed to study the formation and dynamics of coronal mass ejections and the evolution of the density structure of the low corona.

The New Worlds Mission is a proposed project comprising a large occulter flying in formation designed to block the light of nearby stars in order to observe their orbiting observations could be taken with an existing space telescope, possibly the James Webb Space Telescope when it launches, or a dedicated visible light optical telescope optimally designed for the task of finding. UV-VIS spectrometers are easy to use. Most UV-VIS spectrometers used in astronomy attach to telescopes. Most of the ones used in chemistry are comparable in size to electron microscopes and require the same basic skills to use. Because they are simple to operate, there is little chance of a UV-VIS spectrometer being used improperly.

A spectrophotometer in which only one beam passes through the sample compartment is called a “single-beam spectrophotometer”. An explanation of the difference between single-beam and double-beam spectrophotometers is given in the Q&A of previous issue of UV Talk Letter. Refer to this explanation if necessary. - UV-VIS spec: light source, monochromator, sample cell, detector, display system. - functional groups: chromophores and auxophores. - conjugation results in bathochromic / red shift - hypsochromic / blue shift - UV-VIS spec used for qualitative and quantitative analysis - Quantitatively, Beer's law is used;.

In the Visidyne study, "Pinhole X-Ray Coronagraph Optical Systems Concept Definition," a pointing system is described with independent solar and occulter direction sensors located on the instrument platform. The results of a very short study to define an Ultraviolet Coronagraph-Spectrometer (UVCS) for the Pinhole/Occulter Facility (P/OF) are summarized.

The P/OF instrument was based on docummentation from the Definition Phase of the Spacelab Coronographs Program which was effectively completed in August Get this from a library.

A coronagraph is a telescopic attachment designed to block out the direct light from a star so that nearby objects – which otherwise would be hidden in the star's bright glare – can be resolved. Most coronagraphs are intended to view the corona of the Sun, but a new class of conceptually similar instruments (called stellar coronagraphs to distinguish them from solar coronagraphs) are being.

The concept and principle of UV spectrophotometer have several applications. For instance, this is used to detect a functional group.
